Five Poems

Hard Times

Bankruptcy

The lustrous rosette
of jade growing
on a quarter-slice
wedge of lemon

is proof bad things,
at times, go right.
That a failed state can be
a pleasing sight.

Liabilities

Tied with string,
a tumbleweed
of decommissioned
twigs is taking

a dry run at being
yesterday’s thing.
Then what? Life raked
clear, losses cut.
