My cold face<br \/>\nan oval <em>Portrait of a Lady<\/em> breathing alternately<br \/>\nevery three strokes to the sky.<\/p>\n<p>I counted time, counted Souls<br \/>\nin Limbo whom Christ Liberated<br \/>\non a gessoed wooden panel in the Fogg.<\/p>\n<p>The weather was good for swimming.<br \/>\nIt wasn\u2019t stormy.  Inishmurray<br \/>\nwas my swimming destination.<\/p>\n<p>Relief to be in over my head. To be briny<br \/>\nmy spuming body a mass of raging molecules.<br \/>\nMonstrous. Spluttering. Might eat citizens.<\/p>\n<p>All my dead ones fathoms deep in aspic<br \/>\njellied revenants in a time-space strata.<br \/>\nTheir voices bubbled through my heels.<\/p>\n<p>And my mother\u2019s voice was not<br \/>\nher voice\u2014 only balloons of motherbreath.<br \/>\nNegative ions quite far from Sligo proper.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h4>The People Employed at the Organic Garden<\/h4>\n<p>emit rococo info<br \/>\nlike foam from spittle bugs<br \/>\namassing in crotches of heirloom arugula.<\/p>\n<p>Pick runner beans in ricepaper light.<br \/>\nPlash beetroot in rain butts.<br \/>\nFlick dirt from purslane in polytunnels.<\/p>\n<p>Virtuosi on fiddle.<br \/>\nNuisance persons.<br \/>\nPossessors of willow knowhow<\/p>\n<p>how to strip it and weave it.<br \/>\n(Okay a bit lax<br \/>\non payment of car tax.)<\/p>\n<p>Consider the impossibility of their employment<br \/>\nelsewhere, say Esquire\u2019s, slinging latt\u00e9s<br \/>\nwiping teak tabletops with Cillit Bang on a rag: no!<\/p>\n<p>Resembling Siberian tomatoes<br \/>\nthe people employed at the organic garden<br \/>\ngerminate at low temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>Their frilly minds are what Beno\u00eet Mandelbrot is on about<br \/>\nin a TED talk\u2014 the ineluctable<br \/>\nbaroque of Romanesco broccoli.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no broadband in the polytunnel.<br \/>\nIt squats in Knockvicar a luminous plastic sun-<br \/>\ntrap capturing sky, anarchy and rural-<\/p>\n<p>living, recently blown-in jobbers<br \/>\nhusbanding coriander<br \/>\nwhose former lives in other locales<\/p>\n<p>immolate in all-over lambency.<br \/>\nWhose fingers, releasing clods<br \/>\nof earth resemble salsify.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Portrait of a Lady Breathing Alternately The wetsuit bubbled at my sacrum with seawater.
