I almost want to <em>die<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>O take me, please, to the clinic in Zurich.<br \/>\nI\u2019m not being <em>ironic<\/em>\u2014<\/p>\n<p>I cannot see to see!<br \/>\nYou\u2014you have blinded me!<\/p>\n<p>Be my gardener,<br \/>\nand I can make the moves like Lana Turner:<\/p>\n<p>look what my eyeballs are doing now!<br \/>\nThis is all that heaven allows,<\/p>\n<p>and then some (uh, OK, that\u2019s Jane Wyman).<br \/>\nDon\u2019t say I am, I am a poor imitation\u2014<\/p>\n<p>O, you. Magnificent. Obsession.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h4>Away with the birds<\/h4>\n<p>Away with the birds! I was away.<br \/>\nOr so they said. But, ah! In truth,<br \/>\nthe mind was a nineteenth-century<br \/>\nvaletudinarian\u2014chairbound,<br \/>\nearthbound\u2014beholding the garden<br \/>\nin which the seasons played<br \/>\ntheir part remorselessly. I watched<br \/>\nthe birds with no time for me.<br \/>\nAway they went. And although they<br \/>\ndid not love me and had, no doubt,<br \/>\nbetter places to be, I grieved for<br \/>\nmy birds. Such is the quality of desire.<br \/>\nAnd although I rail at others\u2019 dreams,<br \/>\nI must tell you of the night a man<br \/>\ncame to me and presented a plate<br \/>\non which all good things were laid.<br \/>\nO, my friends\u2014for once, I ate.<br \/>\nAnd what was left was this gift:<br \/>\nthe figure of a small bird, so artlessly<br \/>\nrendered I could hear its bounding heart.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Love after Douglas Sirk Take me to the country club in my red dress.
