I dreamt about Tony Blair again.
\nWe were sitting on the steps\u00a0of a mausoleum
\neating lunch in the sunshine.
\nI shifted across\u00a0to sit next to him. He said Hallo.
\nI said Hello, and tried to explain to him why he\u2019d been
\nsuch an incredible failure.\u00a0Didn\u2019t he realise?
\nHe said he\u2019d always tried to do what he thought was right,
\nand that we shouldn\u2019t be afraid to take sides.
\nHe had pickle from his cheese and pickle sandwich
\nin the corners of his mouth, not entire cubes,
\nbut quite a bit of the syrup.\u00a0I sighed.
\nI said OK, we all get funny ideas
\nbut that\u2019s what other people are for,
\nto tell us when we\u2019re being ridiculous.
\nWhat about his wife?
\nHe looked down at his sandwich.
\nDidn\u2019t he have friends?
\nHe stopped chewing.
\nAn aeroplane passed slowly in the sky

\nHe got out his phone
\nand started fiddling about with it.
\nThere were people taking photographs
\nof the mausoleum, and some passed us
\non the steps on their way up.
\nOthers, like us, were just sitting
\non the steps, having a conversation
\nas though nothing were wrong.<\/p>\n
