Poetry in 140 characters? What would Bront\u00eb have made of tweet poems?<\/p>\n

Following the success of last year’s micropoetry competition, the\u00a0Centre for New Writing<\/a>\u00a0and the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at The University of Manchester ran a\u00a0m<\/b>icropoem14<\/strong>competition<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The competition, which was themed around the \u2018English Summer\u2019, took place between Monday 7 and Monday 14 July 2014 on Twitter and participants were asked to simply tweet their micropoem with the hashtag #micropoem14.<\/p>\n

Approximately 150 micropoems were received and judged by the Centre for New Writing\u2019s\u00a0John McAuliffe<\/a>,\u00a0Janet Rogerson<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Eleanor Ward<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Prizes for the best\u00a0three poems include tickets to one of the Centre for New Writing’s autumn \u201cLiterature Live\u201d events, as well as a signed Jeanette Winterson book and vouchers.

Special mentions<\/h2>\n

The judges enjoyed reading through the entries and found it very hard to whittle them down to a shortlist, but they felt that the winning poems chosen managed to achieve the most\u00a0in the very small space that a tweet allows. They all managed the difficult trick of picturing very clearly and with feeling a particular place and time.
\nIn addition to the winning entries, our judges found it hard to leave out the\u00a0lovely lyrical touches of micropoems by\u00a0@KayLBuckley<\/a><\/b>,\u00a0@6thae<\/a><\/b>,\u00a0@MariaTaylor_<\/a>,<\/b>\u00a0@wordbranch<\/a><\/b>,\u00a0@xanstand<\/a><\/b>,@JonnyDRodgers<\/a><\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0@RoyMarshall2<\/a><\/b>\u00a0and also the wit of\u00a0@leftsceptic<\/a><\/b>.<\/p>\n
