{"id":10658,"date":"2019-09-09T15:57:33","date_gmt":"2019-09-09T14:57:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.themanchesterreview.co.uk\/?p=10658"},"modified":"2019-09-26T11:39:41","modified_gmt":"2019-09-26T10:39:41","slug":"two-poems-56","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.themanchesterreview.co.uk\/?p=10658","title":{"rendered":"Two Poems"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Desire<\/h5>\n<p><em>\u2026Now women are at their foulest, \/ But men are weak<br \/>\nsince they are parched in the head and knees \/ By Sirius\u2026<\/em><br \/>\nAlcaeus<b\/><br \/>\n<\/b\/><br \/>\nOutside is that summer<br \/>\nwhich we longed for<\/p>\n<p>on winter nights<br \/>\nfrom underneath our layers <\/p>\n<p>of eiderdown,<br \/>\nremembering <\/p>\n<p>the sudden dawns<br \/>\nand sultry weather,<\/p>\n<p>the freedom of bare legs,<br \/>\nthe endless light,<\/p>\n<p>and all the growing things<br \/>\nthat green and blossom.<\/p>\n<p>\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\t*<\/p>\n<p>Recall that we desired<br \/>\nthis heat. <\/p>\n<p>Recall this<br \/>\nwhen my touch <\/p>\n<p>feels more revolting<br \/>\nthan the wind\u2019s <\/p>\n<p>warm breath,<br \/>\nwhen the air <\/p>\n<p>is spore-rich<br \/>\nand bristling, and when\u2014<\/p>\n<p>awake and restless,<br \/>\nyour sluggish <\/p>\n<p>sweating body<br \/>\nburning in our bed<\/p>\n<p>\u2014you long for cold and thunder.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h5>Emblematic<\/h5>\n<p>The night was moon-bright and I was so hopeful when I got to the party.<br \/>\nThere was music and three types of cheese, many beautiful people were there,<\/p>\n<p>and you were there too. You took up so much space, you were all I could see,<br \/>\nand still you were distant. I tried to speak but when I said something<\/p>\n<p>to you, what was said caused your face to become a cloud passing quickly<br \/>\nbefore the full moon, which reminded me of something The Poet said<\/p>\n<p>about emotions and Nature but which I could not remember.
